Commercial interiors for Cambridge businesses

Source One has been delivering office fit-outs, refurbishments and commercial interiors for Cambridge businesses since 2002.

We’re a family-run business rooted in East Anglia, and we work with a network of trusted trades and suppliers we’ve built relationships with over more than two decades. That means one point of contact for the whole project, reliable people on site and a finished result you’re actually happy with.

Our Cambridge work covers the city and the wider Cambridgeshire area including Huntingdon, Sawston, St Ives and beyond.

Cambridge has one of the most distinctive commercial landscapes in the UK. The technology and life sciences sectors, the university spin-outs and research organisations, the professional services firms and the growing number of businesses relocating to the city and its surrounding business parks – the range of organisations we work with in Cambridge reflects that variety.

Many Cambridge workplaces sit in buildings that come with their own constraints – period properties, listed buildings, university-owned spaces, converted industrial units. We’re comfortable with all of these. The skill is understanding what a space needs while respecting what it already has.

Cambridge businesses also tend to have a clear sense of what they want from their workspace. Collaboration, focus, brand identity, functionality. We’re used to working closely with clients on the design process rather than presenting a standard solution and asking them to approve it.

Recent Cambridge Projects

ideaSpace, part of the University of Cambridge, relocated to new premises at Laundress Lane – offices overlooking one of the most beautiful views in the city. Source One stripped out 2,600 square feet that had been unused for years and created a workspace that reflects the ideaSpace brand and supports the community of entrepreneurs and start-up founders who use it.

The project was completed in five weeks, working within timescales to minimise disruption to other building occupants. It included full project management, space planning and interior design, partitions and glazed walls, flooring, lighting and electrics, a kitchen, office furniture, sound reduction, IT and security collaboration, and Building Regulations application. Lisa project managed the works personally throughout.

Belinda Brown, Office Manager at ideaSpace, said:

“No ask is too big for this dynamic team at Source One who have the vision and expertise to provide exactly what you need in a timely, efficient way. Highly recommended.”

Adcock were moving to a new head office in Sawston, Cambridgeshire – two industrial units that needed converting into one. Source One had previously fitted out their head office in Great Shelford, so when Adcock made the move they came back to us.

The project included knocking through between the two units on the first floor, new partitioning throughout to create ten offices, repairs to the suspended ceiling grid following AC and ventilation installation, conversion of a disabled toilet to a fully fitted shower room, and decoration throughout. Nigel Claydon, Managing Director, said simply:

“We love the new office, thank you so much to Source One for creating this space.”

Laser 2000 had a common problem – two rooms side by side, one barely used and one overcrowded. Source One met with the team on site, identified that removing a wall and reconfiguring the furniture would solve it, and completed the works over a weekend to avoid any disruption to the business. A focused project, delivered efficiently and at a time that suited the client.

What we deliver in Cambridge

  • Office fit-out – Taking a new or empty space and building it out properly. Space planning, partitions, flooring, ceilings, lighting, power and data, furniture, kitchens – the whole project managed as one.

  • Office refurbishment – Improving an existing space that isn’t working as well as it should. Layout changes, updated finishes, new partitions, furniture replacement, acoustic improvements.

  • Partitioning and glazing – Creating meeting rooms, quiet zones and defined work areas without structural building work. Glazed wall systems, bi-fold partitions, screens and pods.

  • Acoustic improvements – Reducing noise in open-plan offices, call centres, meeting rooms and mixed-use spaces. We test the space first so we recommend what’s actually needed, not what’s easiest to sell.

  • Office furniture – Desking, seating, storage, meeting room and breakout furniture. Sourced and specified to suit the space and the budget, not pushed off a standard list.

  • Office dilapidations – End of lease repairs and reinstatement work, managed properly and delivered on time.

Most of our Cambridge clients come back to us or recommend us to others. Adcock came back to us when they moved head offices. That’s the kind of relationship we work to build.
