Transforming Green Light Trust’s Infrastructure
Green Light Trust (GLT) operates from their offices in Lawshall, near Bury St Edmunds, where they rely on a reed bed filtration system for sewage treatment due to the absence of mains drainage. Over time, the existing reed bed had experienced multiple failures, prompting discussions about implementing a new treatment plant.
The Challenge
On Monday, January 20th, we received an urgent call from GLT reporting that the reed bed had completely failed, leading to the temporary installation of portable toilets. Given that GLT supports vulnerable individuals, restoring full toilet facilities swiftly was a top priority.

The Solution
Leveraging our strong relationship with our partners, we expedited the schedule of works. Our immediate steps included:
- Building Control Approval: The application was submitted and approved without delay.
- Project Kickoff: On January 27th, just a week after the initial call, diggers and dumpers arrived on-site to commence work.
- Safety & Engagement: Ensuring the safety of GLT participants was paramount. While maintaining strict safety measures, we also engaged participants in the process, making it an exciting and educational experience for them.
The Implementation
Within four days, we:
- Excavated the area.
- Installed new pipework.
- Installed the new treatment plant.
- Completed final connections and commissioning.
- Restored full toilet functionality by Thursday, January 30th.
Despite facing extreme weather conditions, including torrential rain, sleet, and hail, we successfully completed the primary installation. The ground was challenging to work on, turning into a bog-like state, yet our team remained committed to delivering on schedule.
“Thank you all, you have been great“

Final Steps & Client Involvement
The final groundworks, including the addition of Type 1 hardcore and tidying up the area, were completed shortly thereafter. Throughout the project, GLT had full visibility into our progress via our bespoke Project Management App, which provided real-time updates, images, and quality checks, ensuring continuous communication and transparency.
Client Feedback

- “Thank you all, you have been great” – Connie
- “Thank you everyone, it has been amazing watching you this week, the digger was of course a hit with the participants here” – Lisa
